Two formats
Public bike-share e-bikes (€1–4/30 min, station-to-station, app-paid) and private rental shops (€20–50/full day, more powerful e-motor, GPS tour included). Below: cities best for each.
Lisbon
Lisbon hilly so e-bikes critical for casual cyclists. GIRA (city e-bike share, €2/day pass, 1,000+ bikes). Plus rental shops Bike Iberia, Lisbon Bike Tours. €25–35 daily private rental.
Athens
Athens heat + hills makes e-bikes practical. Brera Athens e-bike rental (€25–35/day, GPS tour). Public bike-share thin in Athens; private rentals dominate.
Berlin
Berlin Nextbike + multiple operators include e-bikes. €1.50/30 min for e-bike. Berlin's flat geography means e-bikes optional for fitness; for tourism, e-bike triples the daily distance.
Amsterdam
Amsterdam e-bike rental shops (Yellow Bike, MacBike). €25–35/day. Public bike-share thin (locals own bikes); private rental dominates tourism.
Barcelona
Barcelona Donkey Republic, Mobike, MyTwic e-bike. Hills around Park Güell + Tibidabo justify e-motor. €25–40/day. Coastal Barceloneta + Eixample rolling fine without e-power.
Salzburg, Innsbruck (Alpine)
Alpine cities benefit hugely from e-bikes for valley + uphill. Innsbruck-area Stubai Valley e-bike tours; Salzburg-Hallstatt routes.
Bordeaux, Lyon (riverside)
French cities with river greenways — Garonne (Bordeaux), Rhône (Lyon) — e-bike covers 30–60km/day comfortably.
Strategy
Bike-share e-bikes dispersed — verify station charge level (not all bikes have full battery). Private rental day-tours include helmet, lock, GPS. Test seat height before paying. Read our bike share guide companion.
