Tattoo travel is a thing

Booking with a specific artist who guests internationally means flying to wherever they're based — or where they happen to guest that month. The cities below are either home bases for famous artists or have studios that host strong guest rotations.

Berlin

Berlin dominates contemporary, blackwork, fine line, and avant-garde styles. Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain dense with studios. Prices €150–250/hour but guest artists from Asia, Americas, all over Europe rotate through.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen traditional and Nordic-folk styles strong. Conspiracy Inc., Tatu Cph, Royal Tattoo (smaller cities). Prices Nordic-high (€200–300/hour) but cleanliness standards excellent.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam traditional Western styles strong; the Dutch-American old-school lineage runs deep here. Schiffmacher Tattoo Museum closed but legacy artists still working.

Lisbon

Lisbon emerging scene, undercutting Berlin and Copenhagen by 30–40%. Warning Tattoo Studio, Queen of Hearts. Príncipe Real base.

London

London The Family Business, Sang Bleu, Cock A Snook. Highest concentration of shops; most expensive (£200–400/hour); strongest celebrity-artist scene. Shoreditch and Hackney dense.

Strategy

Book artists 3–6 months ahead — top names have year-long waits. Use studio Instagram to track guest spots. Don't walk-in for major work — quality varies hugely. Cash discount common (20%).
