Paris-plus-something is the most common 2-week European itinerary. Here's the honest sort of which cities combine well — and which don't.
Best Paris combinations
- Paris + London: Eurostar 2h 30min city-to-city. Different histories, different cuisines, both major capitals. 5-6 nights each works for a 12-night trip.
- Paris + Loire Valley + Bordeaux: Train south. 7 nights Paris + 3 nights Loire châteaux base + 4 nights Bordeaux.
- Paris + Provence (Aix or Avignon): TGV south, 3h. 7 nights Paris + 5-7 nights Provence base.
- Paris + Barcelona: Direct TGV to Barcelona is 6h 30min — long but doable. Otherwise fly. 6 nights each.
- Paris + Rome: Fly. 6-7 nights each.
Trickier Paris combinations
- Paris + Amsterdam: Thalys 3h 20min. Works but Amsterdam needs only 3 nights — leaves 11 nights Paris which is too many for some.
- Paris + Brussels: 1h 30min train but Brussels disappoints over 1-2 days. Add Bruges or Ghent for substance.
- Paris + Berlin: Possible by overnight train (Nightjet) or fly. Both major cities; lose a half-day on transit.
What doesn't work in 2 weeks
- Paris + 4 other cities: Half the trip is travel.
- Paris + Greek island: Logistics eat too much. Better separate trips.
- Paris + multiple Italian cities + Spain: Not enough time anywhere.
Strategy
For 14 days, pick ONE Paris-plus pair. 7+7 nights gives both cities depth. Don't try to fit 4-5 destinations.
