Stari Grad vs Brankovac
Mostar is small — these two neighborhoods are a 5-10 min walk apart, but the trip changes meaningfully. Stari Grad is the photo: Old Bridge, the bazaar, the call to prayer over the Neretva. Brankovac is the residential hill on the west bank, calmer, with the bridge-and-bazaar in walking distance but none of the day-tripper crush.
The cobbled old town around the Stari Most bridge — the postcard Mostar, full day-tripper traffic 10am-6pm, beautiful at dawn and dusk.

Atmosphere
Stari GradStari Grad wins by definition — you sleep within 5 min of the Old Bridge, Koski Mehmed Mosque, the bazaar. Brankovac has views of the bridge from above but lacks the close-up density.
Day-tripper crush
BrankovacStari Grad becomes nearly unwalkable 11am-4pm in season — Mostar's a popular Dubrovnik day trip. Brankovac gets none of this.
Sleep
BrankovacBrankovac, decisively. Bazaar foot traffic and pre-dawn call to prayer carry through Stari Grad guesthouses; Brankovac is residential silence past 9pm.
Restaurants
Stari GradStari Grad has 20+ ćevapi and traditional houses in tiny radius. Brankovac has 3-4 picks max — you'll walk to the bazaar for dinner.
Price
TiedMostar is cheap across the board. Both €30-€70 for decent product. Brankovac apartments slightly cheaper than Stari Grad guesthouses.
The verdict
Pick Stari Grad if…
Pick Stari Grad if it's your only night, you want the Old Bridge at 6am before tour groups, the cliché atmosphere is the trip.

Pick Brankovac for any 2+ night stay, light sleepers, anyone who arrived by car (parking is easier), or families. The 5-10 min walk to the bazaar is downhill — you'll do it twice a day.

Stari Grad for the cliché single-night trip. Brankovac for the calmer, longer, second-time Mostar.
