Where to Stay in Rhodes: Old Town or Lindos?

By FredolinePublished 2026-05-16Reviewed 2026-05-167 min read

Rhodes is one of Greece's largest islands. Most travelers stay 5-7 nights. The pick is mostly Old Town vs Lindos.

Old Town — for history

Rhodes Old Town is one of Europe's largest medieval inhabited cities — UNESCO walls, knight-era architecture. Best for: history-focused stays, first-time visits, anyone over 50.

Lindos — for beach and photo

Lindos is the whitewashed village 50 km south — beach below, the acropolis above, the postcard. Best for: beach-focused trips, romantic stays, photo focus.

What to avoid

  • Faliraki resort strip: British package-stag-night zone.
  • Anywhere advertised as "Rhodes" 30+ km from town: Verify on a map.
  • Cruise day-trip to Rhodes: 4-6 hours is too short. Stay overnight.

Combined Rhodes trip

Best 5-7 day Rhodes: 3 Old Town + 2 Lindos with rental car. Day-trip to Symi (1h ferry) for an extra day if available.

Cost reality

Rhodes is cheaper than Cycladic islands. €100-€200/night for decent Old Town hotels, €150-€300 in Lindos.

Compare: Old Town vs Lindos.
